Exxon Mobil

February 04, 2010

Ah Exxon Mobil, probably best known for the Exxon Valdese oil spill in the Prince William Sound of Alaska in 1989.

Exxon Mobil is currently running TV ads that claim that vehicle emissions have been reduced by 95% since 1970. I am here to tell you that is nothing more then a blatant lie. While it is true that vehicle emissions have dropped by just over 50% according to  America.gov. Exxon Mobil would have you believe that 95% reduction and that they are responsible. The fact is, those emission reductions are the result of the 1970 Clean Air Act, the federally mandated removal of lead from gasoline during the 1970's, and the clean air act of 1990. Exxon Mobil would have not taken those steps if they had not been forced to by the Federal Government. So once again, we are forced to listen to their lies and propaganda. I can understand why they turn to that sort of deception, they have no choice, the truth would be suicide.

Here is a little comic relief, it is a spoof of Exxon Mobil advertising with a very interesting fact at the end.

It is also important to know that in 1911 the Federal Government broke up Standard Oil under the Sherman Anti Trust Act. Standard Oil became 34 independent companies after the break up, two of which became Exxon and Mobil. Well, you can tell where this is going. In 1999 Exxon and Mobile merged. Exxon Mobil is now the largest oil company in the world, considerably larger then its parent, Standard Oil. How do they get away with this stuff?
